Board of Selectmen Continue Discussion on Morrison Cell Proposal

The Board of Selectmen continued the discussion regarding the Morrison Cell proposal until its meeting in August.

The Westwood Board of Selectmen has decided to wait until the Planning Board's vote for further discussion regarding the Morrison Park Cellular Facility's Lease.

Chairman of the Selectmen Patrick Ahearn explained that the board did not want to encroach on the Planning Board's decision regarding a proposed wireless tower. The Planning Board will be continuing a hearing until July 26 at 8:30 p.m.

"We didn’t vote on it last time to not put pressure on the Planning Board, so at this point in time we will continue with that decision," Ahearn said during Monday's meeting.

Ahearn explained that Cingular Wireless has had a 10 year lease and is trying to renew. The renewed lease would include the tower that is still currently under discussion by the Planning Board.

At a July 12 Planning Board meeting, the board held a public hearing regarding an Environment and Impact Design Review (EIDR) for a wireless facility at Morrison Field.  The application for the project was filed by New Cingular Wireless PCS and involves building a 90-foot structure with a maximum 36 inch diameter, with it tapering from 30 inches.

The tower would replace an existing one, and aims to be similar in structure, with a flagpole style monopole that will have nine interior antennas, associated coax cables, conduits and other electronic equipment. The carrier involved is AT&T.

The Selectmen will continue discussion regarding Cingular Wireless's lease at its next meeting in August.
