Westwood Police Wary of Potentially-False Chimney-Cleaning Service

Residents have made various reports to Westwood Police about phone calls by what could be a telephone scam.

The Westwood Police Department said Friday that a number of residents in town have received phone solicitations for chimney cleaning/inspections services.

During the reported calls, the solicitors attempt to schedule appointments with the homeowners for the services.

But so far, Westwood Police have not been able to confirm that the solicitor is offering a legit service, and is advising residents to carefully scrutinize un-solicited phone calls for home improvements and services, accoridng to a news release Friday afternoon.

Residents are also being encouraged to check with the Massachusetts Attorney General's office, the Better Business Bureau, and the Westwood Police Department before making any appointments with such apparent service providers.
