Westwood Police Offer Halloween Safety Tips

Safety is just as important as an eye-catching costume on Halloween night.

Halloween is only a week from Monday, but that doesn't mean it's too early to start planning for a safe and enjoyable evening.

As such, the  recommends the following safety tips for parents and children to keep in mind when hitting the streets on Halloween night:

  • Young children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian when Trick or Treating.
  • All Trick or Treaters should wear bright colors on their costumes for when it gets dark.
  • When wearing masks with costumes, make sure to have eye holes big enough so as not to obstruct vision.
  • Kids should travel in groups when roaming the streets on Halloween.
  • When checking candy after Trick or Treating, be sure to digard any opened packages and look for sharp objects.
  • General safety rules also apply: stay to the side of the road and remain cognizant of any vehicular traffic.
