Westwood Police Log: Westwood Lodge Patient Escapes

Police tracked down a Boston man who escaped from an ambulance while he was being transported to Westwood Lodge.

A 21-year-old Boston man being transported to Westwood Lodge on November 29 by ambulance escaped on foot, Westwood Police said.

At about 5:20 a.m. on November 29, the man fled from the ambulance that was transporting him. He was described at the time as wearing blue jeans and a white tee-shirt.

Given the cold temperature outside at the time, and considering what little clothing the man had on, police requested Massachusetts State Police K-9 units to assist in the search for the man, which continued through 7 a.m.

Prior to 7 a.m., police said a resident of Wagon Road in Westwood reported that someone had entered their home and taken money out of a purse before leaving the home. A short time later, a male wearing a bath towel and a red jacket was observed in the area of Dela Park Road, police said.

Police apprehended the man, who was identified as the 21-year-old male they had been looking for.

Reports indicate that the man had entered a home on Dela Park Road and took a jacket and a bath towel; somewhere between leaving the ambulance and entering the Dela Park Road home, the man removed all of his clothing prior to putting on the jacket and bath towel.

The man was later transported to Norwood Hospital to be checked for multiple scratch wounds sustained in his escape, and given the fact that he had been outside without sufficient clothing for so long, police said.

The man was later discharged after treatment from Norwood Hospital, and brought to Dedham District Court, where he was charged with two counts of breaking and entering, as well as larceny.

Police chose not to disclose the man's name due to the nature of the incident involving medical treatment.
