Westwood Police Log: Vandalism, Theft Strikes Thurston Middle School

Two separate incidents at the school resulted in a damaged window and stolen equipment.

August 17, 10:15 a.m. – Westwood Police received a call from Thurston Middle School Principal Allison Borchers last week, according to reports, after a window on the second floor of the building was discovered to have been broken.

Police responded to the scene and determined that the window had been damaged by rocks. It appeared that someone had tried to enter the building, but there was no sign of forced entry, and it was believed the damage was done to the window in the overnight hours.

August 20, 8:08 a.m. – In a separate incident, Westwood Police also received a report that there had been a breaking and entering at Thurston on the same level on the building.

Entry had been gained into one classroom through a window on the second level of the building. A number of electronics were stolen from the classroom, according to police.

While it's possible the two incidents are related, police noted that they took place on different sides of the building. The matter is currently under investigation.
