Westwood Police Log: Speeding Drivers Summonsed for Drug Possession

After a small chase through side streets, Westwood Police charged three people with possession of marijuana with intent to sell.

While on patrol on the East Street rotary on August 20, a Westwood Police cruiser attempted to pull over a speeding 2005 Ford Focus at around 1:11 a.m., according to police reports.

Police said the car nearly hit the cruiser as it traveled along the rotary, and as such the cruiser then followed the vehicle along several side streets before finally pulling it over.

Once the car was stopped, police could smell the odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according the reports.

While the driver, a 22-year-old female from Lowell, passed a sobriety test, she and two other passengers in the car were summonsed on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and conspiracy to violate the drug laws, according to reports.

The other two passengers included a 21-year-old-male and a 59-year-old male, both from Concord.

From the vehicle, police seized nine different marijuana pipes, a grinder containing a small amount of marijuana, a cigarette box containing rolling papers as well as a marijuana cigarette, and another cigarette box containing four individually-wrapped packages of marijuana.

While the car's occupants collectively had less than one ounce of marijuana in their possession – the legal maximum for possession of the drug to be considered a misdemeanor – they are still being charged due to the way it was packaged, which indicated the intent to distribute. No alcohol was found in the car.
