Westwood Police Log: Cab Rider Leaves on Foot at Budget Inn

The following information was supplied by the Westwood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Westwood Police responded to the last week, when a taxi driver claimed that a customer he had dropped off at the Budget Inn on Providence Highway had left the cab without paying the proper fare.

Police discovered on Sunday, Aug. 21, that the customer had run around the back of the hotel and jumped over a fence. Upon walking up to the fence, police identified the customer, who had been standing at the bottom of a 10-foot ditch, from which he could not get out.

The customer was visibly intoxicated, police said, and the Fire Department was requested to help him out of the ditch.

After paying off the proper fare, the individual was transported to Norwood Hospital for assessment.
