Westwood Police Log: Accident at East Street Rotary and Suspicious IRS call

Westwood Police and Fire responded to an accident on the East Street Rotary and confirmed that an IRS call was real.

July 20, 8:46 p.m. - Westwood Police responded to suspicious activity involving phone calls from the IRS. According to a report, a Westwood resident received an automated phonecall reporting to be from the IRS and that there was a problem with an account. The message said to call back before a certain time and gave a phone number.

The woman called the number and it requested her social security number. She then talked to a real person who said that the resident had received the call in error and that there was no problem. The resident found this to be suspicious and was worried about what may have been done with the social security number.

Police investigated the situation and after a bit of tracking it was found that it was a call from the IRS and that it was not a scam.
