A look at some of the biggest and most popular police stories from the past year.

And as we approach the New Year this weekend with an annual fireworks display at , we'll be bringing you a series of yearly wrap-up features highlighting some of the most interesting and exciting stories from this year in Westwood.

Here are 10 of the top police/crime stories in Westwood from 2011:

: At the end of July, six suspects were arrested and charged in the  at a Tim McGraw concert in Mansfield, and were subsequently arraigned the Attleboro District Courthouse.

A Westwood man was arrested after an investigation in which police were able to link him to a burglary in Easton. The Porter Street resident was arrested on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, and released on $10,000 bail.

: In late September, Westwood Police arrested a Rockport man for the . The suspect handed over a note to a bank teller during the robbery, intimidating that he had a weapon, but no weapon was revealed, police said.

: The athletic field at Westwood Lodge was closed earlier this year after Westwood Police Chief William Chase recommended doing so to keep the field off limits . 

: In early November, commuters on both sides of Rte. 128 in Westwood were held up for about an hour, as Massachusetts State Police  after a one-vehicle accident occurred near University Avenue.

: One woman was injured and flown into a Boston-area hospital after her car collided with another under the MBTA train bridge on East Street. The over the years.

Westwood Police arrested two Westwood men and a Dedham man after they reportedly attempted an armed robbery of a patron at K&G Fashion Superstore on Providence Highway. The victim of the incident provided police with descriptions of the three men after they fled the scene, as well as the vehicle they drove away in, which they were able to locate shortly later. All three were charged with armed assault to commit a robbery. 

: There were a number of reported incidents involving the theft of wheels at local dealerships in Westwood this year, but this one incident in mid-June involved the theft of a 2011 Mercedes G55K vehicle with a retail value of $125,325. The vehicle was stolen from the lot, prompting an investigation. 

: In a small log item in December, a female who parked her Toyota Rav 4 at in Westwood reported to police that the car had been severely vandalism while she was there playing a bridge game. The car was covered in yellow spray paint, save for the hood and windshield.  

Occupy Westwood? Unrelated to the Occupy movement in Boston and elsewhere in the nation, Westwood Police this year received a handful of reports involving unwanted camping in tents on private property. , a resident of Canton Terrace that a homeless person had erected a tent in the area behind her home, according to reports. Then, , a Westdale Road resident reported to police that an unwanted person had pitched a tent on their property. Police responded to the area and discovered a number of pitched tents at the rear of the property; the tents were unoccupied.
