Westwood Fire Dept. Collecting Items for Tornado Relief Efforts

A list of items that can be donated to help relief efforts in Western Massachusetts.

The Westwood Fire Department is currently collecting items for donation to help with tornado relief efforts in Brimfield, which was devastated by last week's tornados. 

The following overal items are currently being sought for donation:  

  • Water
  • Blue tarps
  • Flashilights
  • Batteries
  • Glow sticks
  • Bungee chords
  • Ropes
  • Trash bags
  • Plastic storage containers with tops
  • Gift cards for various stores of any amount

The Fire Department is specifically asking for clothing or food items to be donated directly to the American Red Cross.

Transport for the items is currently ongoing and will remain until Thursday. After that, the Fire Department will work to see that any additional donated items be given to relief efforts.

The move is part of a joint effort between the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts and the Teamsters union.

"We have some stuff here," said Deputy Fire Chief Mike Reardon. "We'll collect from anybody."

Screened-in tents are also being requested, Reardon said, to help keep the bugs away during recovery efforts.
