Westwood Fire Crews Extinguish Dumpster Blaze

A dumpster on Currier Farm Road in Westwood caught on fire Thursday morning. No injuries were reported.

Two engines of the Westwood Fire Department responded to Currier Farm Road Thursday morning after a dumpster on the street became engulfed in flames.

"It was pretty close to the house," said Westwood Fire Captain Richard Cerullo. "We were concerned because of the close proximity."

Luckily, though, no property was damaged to any nearby homes, and no injuries were reported. The dumpster was located between two homes on the street.

Fire crews responded to the scene between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m., Cerullo said, and the fire was contained as of 11:30.

It was not immediately clear what started the fire in the first place, Cerullo said, but the source of the fire had been down in the bottom, prompting crews to pull the dumpster apart as they continued to douse the dumpster with water and foam.

"It was so deep-seeded, we had to move some of the debris," Cerullo said.

Westwood Department of Public Works crews were also on scene, helping to douse the dumpster with water and foam, as well as sand.
