Waltham Sex Offender Causing Stir in Waltham, Lexington

A Level 3 sex offender's behavior in both towns has raised eyebrows among residents.

A Level 3 sex offender living Waltham is causing a stir in Waltham and Lexington for suspicious behavior in both towns, according to the Boston Globe.

William LaFauci, 57, is due in Waltham District Court this month for allegedly violating a city ordinance prohibiting him from sensitive areas in the city, such as schools and parks, according to the Globe. Also, Lexington Police recently warned residents bout LaFauci allegedly approaching a child outside of a Lexington school recnetly.

Despite his behavior, LaFauci told the Globe he does not want to hurt anyone and people should not fear his presence.

As a result of his travels near sensitive areas, Waltham Police are monitoring him, according to the Globe. He is not on parole or probation.

LaFauci's apparence in court next month stems from a June indicident, according to the Globe. LaFauci told the Globe he pulled into a Waltham park after a car struck him while he was riding his bicycle.

LaFauci has a long history of convictions for sex offenses. In 1992, LaFauci was convicted of open and gross lewdness and in 1993 he was convicted of the same charge as well as indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years old, according to the Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry. In 1998, he was again convicted of open and gross lewdness.

Sexual disfunction? If I see a girl walking down the street that I'm attracted to I don't go a rape her because I think she's attractive because I know its wrong and I'm not an animal. These people that rape or do disgusting things to children know that its wrong yet do it anyway. It's not just sexual disfunction Rudy101! They are animals for committing these crimes! How can you possibly turn them into the victim? You obviously don't have a child playing at one of these playgrounds and if you do, I feel bad for them since you won't be protecting them because you'll be too busy trying to figure out a more decent way to "treat" these poor pedophiles!

I am the author of the City of Waltham's Sex Offender Restrictions Ordinance. This ordinance restricts where Level III sex offenders may live, and also prohibits them from entering any park or recreational facility, and from “loitering within 300 feet of a school, school bus stop, day-care center, park, recreational facility, elderly housing facility or facility for the mentally retarded.” The definition of “recreational facility” is quite broad and, for example, even includes any “fast-food restaurant with play area intended for children under 10 years of age.” In consultation with the City’s Law Department, we made the ordinance as restrictive as possible while still remaining Constitutional. I recommend residents do two things. First, visit the Waltham Police Department’s webpage at http://www.city.waltham.ma.us/police-department and follow the link on the left to acquaint yourself with the Level III sex offenders in Waltham. Then, if you see one of them where they don’t belong, call the police and report the individual by name. Do not try to approach these people or engage with them in any way. Simply call the police and let them do their job. If one of these individuals are caught in violation a few times, they could end up going away. Robert G. Logan Councillor Ward 9

Dear Councillor Logan, I was not able to access any lists of Level 111 sex offender lists and their locations on the Waltham Police website. The only selection on the left hand side explained what each sex offender level meant. Could you please look into this for me? There are many children that live in my neighborhood and we all look out for them so I want to be informed. Thank you, Beverly

You didnt see the link to click on the Sex offender registration page? Ok.. here's turn by turn directions for you: Click on Sex Offender Registration. Then where it says: More information is available at: Commonwealth of Massachusetts Sex Offender Registry Board Click on that. That will bring you to the State's website for it. Then follow the instructions on that page. Its very easy to use.
