Waltham City Employee Arrested For DUI

Mayor Jeanette McCarthy said she is looking into the incident.

An employee of the Waltham city government was recently arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, according to city officials.

Mark Casella, 50, of 46 Lyman St., was arrested on Dec. 9 and charged with one count of driving under the influence of alcohol (second offense), according to police.

Mayor Jeanette McCarthy confirmed on Dec. 20 that Casella is a city employee and that she was looking into the personnel issues surrounding the incident. She did not specify for which department Casella works.

The incident began at around 6:03 p.m. when Waltham Police responded to a report of a disabled motor vehicle blocking the road in front of 11 Pleasant St., according to Waltham Police Sgt. Tim King. Officers responded and found Casella unconscious behind the wheel of a pickup truck. The rear end of the truck was positioned on the grassy part of the east side of the sidewalk, King said.

Officers woke Casella and performed a field sobriety test, which he failed, and arrested him on the DUI charge, King said.

Waltham Patch could not immediately reach Casella for comment.

obviously there is more to this article, and no excuses for getting behind the wheel at that severity, let him go to court, and use his job title to get off yet another incident. I am so sad that even his friends are afraid to help him. sad...

we as citizens in waltham have the right to know who is that irresponsible to get behind the wheel of any vehicle, no matter who they are and where they work. It is not considered stalking when you are just looking out for your family and friends safety, there must have been concerns for this to have been noticed. I do believe i have read this address and name in the police log on several occasions. someone needs to intervene for the sake of our loved ones walking and driving in waltham.

I dont know where your getting your info from but you have NOT read this address or heard his name anywhere on Patch in previous posts. The 1st offense was almost 20 years ago and Ryan Doll was around 10 years old give or take a few years. I dont think he was writing for anybody but teachers back then.
