The victim in the October house explosion has died.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and Marlborough Fire Chief James Fortin announced Wednesday that the victim of the in Marlborough has died.

"One of the key things that will happen now is we will be waiting for a report from the medical examiner'ss office. That will be a part of wrapping up the investigation," said Jennifer Mieth, Public Information Officer for the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

The explosion is being investigated by the Marlborough Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Fire officials had previously confirmed that gas was the source of the explosion, although the exact cause had not been determined.

The investigation revealed that the gas infrastructure inside or outside the home did not contribute to the incident and no malfunction or defect of the gas appliances in the home was detected, according to a release from the Fire Marshal's Office and Marlborough Fire Department.

“We want the public to be reassured it wasn’t a problem with the utility infrastructure,” said Mieth.

He tried to commit suicide... Looks like he succeeded, just took longer than he probably expected.

As I mentioned the victim has a family. Please do not speculate or leave comments in which his young child can be made aware. Have some compassion when posting.

It is amazing how rude people can be!! This man lost his life and people are saying it was drugs or suicide. This man had a young daughter and a wife. How would you feel if it was your familly member and people were making comments that are not true? People really need to think twice before putting in their opinions!!

Although I did not know him, his brother is a good friend of mine. Please be respectful of the families feelings, they deserve respect.

All I can say is this....whatever he may have been doing which caused this fatal explosion had put allot of other innocent people in harms way. This neighborhood has allot of families living in this radius, not mention also an Elementary school as well. It will be unnerving if it does turn out this incident was not an accident. Then we can decided which comments are appropriate/ what is disrespectful. It was a miracle that just 1 house 1 person was affected -this person lived alone. That explosion rocked our entire neighborhod like an earth quake and scared all of us on so many levels.
