Victim in Fatal Needham Crash Identified as Westwood Man

33-year-old Matthew M. Cox of Westwood was killed in a Needham accident Wednesday.

A man killed in a rollover accident in Needham on Wednesday has been identified as 33-year-old Matthew M. Cox of Westwood, Massachusetts State Police confirm.

Cox was operating a 1997 Ford Explorer in the far left lane on Rte. 128 South, according to a preliminary investigation conducted by Trooper Robert Farraro, when he veered right, struck a guardrail adjacent to the breakdown lane and rolled his vehicle.

Cox was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to  where he was pronounced dead.

Troop H of the State Police is conducting an investigation into the circumstances that may have caused the crash.

The Needham Fire Department and the State Highway Division assisted Troopers on the scene Wednesday, which was described by one witness as a "parking lot."

With investigators on the scene, two lanes running south remained open with the remainder of vehicles rerouted off of the highway at Highland Ave.

State Police stated that the scene took approximately three hours to clear.
