Three Arrested for Heroin Sales Near Norwood Day Care

Norwood Police Detectives arrested three males Monday afternoon for dealing heroin after receiving a tip on the sale.

Norwood Police Detectives and other members of the Norfolk County Police Anti-Crime (NORPAC) Detectives Unit arrested three males Monday for dealing heroin, Norwood police spokesman Kevin Grasso said in an email statement Tuesday afternoon.

Smaily Yovany Sanchez, 24, of Miami, Florida, Waldemar Rosado, 23, of Hyde Park, and Cory Justin Menice, 30, of Westwood, were taken into custody after detectives observed a drug transaction take place at Orleans and Chatham roads in Norwood.

"After receiving a tip that a drug sale would take place somewhere in Norwood yesterday afternoon, Detectives acted immediately," Grasso said. "They spread out over several locations and set up surveillance where this transaction was likely to take place."

At approximately 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, detectives located several of the suspected drug dealers. After a short period of surveillance, Detectives observed a drug transaction take place and stopped the suspects' motor vehicle.

Sanchez was arrested for distribution of class A (heroin), conspiracy to violate drug laws, school zone violation and using a motor vehicle without authority. Menice was arrested on three outstanding warrants, possession of class A with intent to distribute (heroin), possession of class A (heroin), conspiracy to violate drug laws and school zone violation. Rosado was arrested for distribution of class A (heroin), conspiracy to violate drug laws and school zone violation.

Grasso said the charges included school zone violations because the drug sales took place within the zone of a licensed day care on Walpole St. near Wilson St.

All three will be arraigned Tuesday afternoon at Dedham District Court.
