String of Westwood Home Robberies Under Investigation

The Westwood Police Department offers information on how to keep your home safe.

The Westwood Police Department is using forensics in an investigation of two home robberies that took place in the past week.

The most recent hose break was on Dean Street around 9 p.m. on Monday. When the home's owner arrived there, he saw a light turn off and called police, who arrived on the scene with K9 units.

A thief reportedly stole a laptop and jewelery and left his victim's home in "slight disarray," Westwood Police said.

After searching the area, police found some of the missing jewelry on the ground, but were unable to locate the thief.

On Saturday, during another house break on Dean Street, a thief broke a window to gain access and steal a computer, television and jewelry. The Westwood Police Department believes the two incidents are connected.

Keeping your Home Safe

Paul Toland at the Westwood Police Department recommends the following tips to keep your home safe.

  • Keep some lights on when you leave your home.
  • Be aware of people on foot, who could have "motives contrary to legitimacy."
  • Keep an eye on your neighborhood and report suspicious behavior.
  • Secure your doors and windows.
  • If you have an alarm system - arm it.
