State Police: One Seriously Injured in Westwood Highway Crash [Photos, Video]

State Police closed both lanes of Rte. 128 down for about an hour Tuesday morning to allow for a MedFlight helicopter to land.

Commuters on both sides of Rte. 128 in Westwood were held up for about an hour Tuesday morning as Massachusetts State Police after a one-vehicle accident occurred near University Avenue around 10:05 a.m.

The accident occurred after a 46-year-old man from North Easton crashed his 2006 Ford Echo 250 Van near Exit 13 on the highway. It was not immediately clear what caused the accident. 

Early scanner reports indicated the man had head injuries. State Police confirmed the man suffered serious injuries so as to require transport to Massachusetts General Hospital via MedFlight, but the injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

and crews, as well as the Dedham Fire Department, responded to the scene. Both lanes of the highway were shut down; the road was cleared by 11:02 a.m., State Police said.
