Those injuries included a ruptured spleen, which had to be surgically removed, serious bodily injuries and a head injury.

The injuries were so severe that he had to be put into a medically induced coma to help him heal. As a result of treatment, he has contracted an infection and is now reportedly “in serious pain,” according to Mansfield Police Chief Arthur O’Neill, but is expected to recover. Police said that it was clear that the prompt medical attention he received saved his life.

Mansfield investigators, namely Officer Roy Bain, charged the suspects on witness testimony from concertgoers at the show.

“Several people were so disgusted (with the fight) that they came forward to us,” O’Neill said before the arraignment. “There was no good reason for it . . . they didn’t know the victim, there’s just no sense to it.”

O’Neill also stated in a press release, “We, as a police department and as a community, salute these young people for their courage and honor (in coming forward to the police).”

The suspects’ defense attorneys cited the witness testimony and the fact that mot of the defendants did not have prior records. With the exception of Dossantos, who turned himself in Friday morning, Mansfield Police picked up all other defendants on arrest warrants.

Attempts to contact Skehill's family were made Friday but were not immediately successful.

In an interview with WCVB Channel 5 on Thursday, Skehill's mother, Carol said her son remembered being assaulted and tried to protect himself, saying there was nothing else he could do.

She also commended witnesses who stepped forward to police to identify the suspects.

The pretrial is scheduled for Aug. 16.
