Police Log: Strange Calls, a Warrant Arrest and Odd Car Damage

The following information was supplied by the Westwood Police Department for the week of April 16-23. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, April 20

Westwood Man Arrested on Warrant (5:22 p.m.) - Westwood Police arrested a 29-year-old local man on a warrant issued out of Taunton District Court for breaking and entering into a building during the day time.

Strange Calls on Lowder Brook Drive (12:53 p.m.) - A business on Lowder Brook Drive reported to police that it had received strange voicemails recording a discussion between two people in a language other than English. The most recent voicemail on April 15, however, involved one person speaking English to another person who was inaudible in the message. No criminal intent was found in the messages, police determined, and their intent and origin are unknown. 

White Paint Found on Car (10:37 a.m.) - An individual at in Westwood left the building to find her vehicle covered in white paint on the hood and windshield. The matter is under investigation, and is reminiscent of .

Tuesday, April 17

Counterfeit Money Found (2:46 p.m.) - A manager at in Islington reported to police that the store had discovered a counterfeit $20 bill in its possession during the day. The bill was confiscated and forwarded to the U.S. Secret Service. 

Windshield Smashed, Purse Stolen (9:39 a.m.) - A Cobleigh Street resident reported to police that their vehicle, a Kia, had been broken into during the overnight hours. The windshield of the vehicle had been smashed in with a boulder, police said, and a purse, containing $200 in cash and personal papers, was taken from the front seat. The vehicle was locked parked in the driveway of the residence at the time. The matter remains under investigation.
