Police, Fire Respond to Six-Car Accident on East Street

The accident held up traffic for about a half hour on Wednesday.

, and responded to the Providence Highway overpass on East Street on Wednesday afternoon in response to a chain-reaction accident.

But unlike the traditional fender-bender involving two to three cars, Wednesday's accident involved six vehicles.

The accident took place shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, when a vehicle stopped short on East Street heading towards the rotary, causing the following cars to pile up over the bridge.

One person was transported to Norwood Hospital complaining of injury, according to Westwood Fire Captain Richard Cerullo, and three vehicles were towed from the scene. 

In total, the accident disrupted traffic for about a half hour, and the road was cleared shortly after 1:30 p.m.
