PHOTOS, VIDEO: Westwood Firefighters Open New Christmas Tree Lot

The lot, located at the Islington Tennis Courts, was organized by the Westwood Permanent Firefighters Association.

From now until Christmas Eve, residents in Westwood can spruce up their homes with a freshly-cut Christmas Tree from a new lot over in Islington.

The was organized by Westwood firefighter Wayne Paul in conjunction with the Westwood Permanent Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 1994, according to the Association's president, Bob Valluzzi. 

It is the first local lot to be held in Westwood as of late, though each year, , shrubs and wreaths for the holidays.

But at the new lot, average height Nova Scotia Balsam Firs start at around $40, Valluzzi said, and range in size from table-top to about 12 feet. All proceeds benefit the Westwood Permanent Firefighters Association. 

The lot opened Friday, Nov. 25, and although December is just underway, only few trees have been sold so far, Paul said at the lot Thursday evening. He attributed the low sales to the abnormally warm weather during the past week.

Wreaths, however, have been selling quickly, and Paul said he hopes that as temperatures drop and residents get into the holiday spirit, they'll head to the lot for the annual tree. 

The lot is open weekdays from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
