Both Westwood and Dover Fire Department responded to a cottage fire last night at the Hale Reservation Summer Day Camp at 80 Carby Street in Dover.
Dover Police Officer Jon Cash stated that upon the fire department’s arrival at 9:54 p.m., the cottage was completely engulfed in flames. The building was not occupied and there were no injuries.
He said, “Right now, there is no suspicion,” but in a case like this they have to call in the state fire marshal. Cash added that because the Hale Reservation is both in Dover and Westwood, the Westwood fire department also responded.
Cash said that most of the firefighters on the scene left at 11:30 p.m., but one truck remained behind until 12:15 a.m. to make sure that, “everything was wet and that a fire did not erupt again.
“The Dover fire department cleared the scene at 12:15 a.m.” to make sure it was completely cool and wet. Majority cleared at 11:30. “It may have been weather related but we’re not sure.
“It’s a seasonal cabin, part of Hale Day camp,” said Cash. The state fire marshal will be going to the site this afternoon.
