Why is Rock Meadow Brook Blocked?

Why are Town Brooks Neglected and Blocked by DPW

Living in the Town for over 40 years I have seen much change..

Years ago the Westwood DPW would inspect culverts, brooks and streams. They used to dredge out culverts as needed and cut and remove fallen trees from across streams. Saying this service has waned is putting it mildly. Take Rock Meadow brook and rock meadow for just one example.

From it's start or head waters on High st next to St. Margaret Marys, down High Rock St, under Hartford St, across High Rock and into Rock Meadow it is a total mess and has not been dealt with in years other than the area near the New Cemetary when that was built.

As the brook exits Rock Meadow under Dover Rd. it is all "fenced up" and covered in debris and branchs impeding it's true flow. This dammed up area is less than a thousand feet from Carby St. and the DPW. DPW managers and staff drive right past this dammed up mess on their way to work each day...

If a private land owner blocked a stream in this manner there certainly would be problems. Hopefully someone can do something about this particular problem at Dover Rd and maybe start looking at other waterways all over Westwood.
