Two Longtime Westwood Residents Died

Marion L. Towne and Ivar E. Johnson each lived in Westwood for more than 60 years.

Marion L. Towne, a Westwood resident for over 80 years, died September 6 at Harrington House in Walpole. She was 93. She worked for and was a foster mother for the Home for Little Wanderers in Jamaica Plain for over 40 years, opening her home and fostering over 250 children throughout 20 of those years, and was named Foster Mother of the Year several times because of this.

She was predeceased by her husband George Warren Towne. She is survived by her children George W.  Towne Jr.  and his wife Robyn of Australia, Marilyn Flynn of Foxboro,  Donald B. Towne and his wife Elizabeth of Norwood, and Eric A. Towne of Westwood. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.  Mother of the late Richard J. Towne and David Towne.  Sister of the late Donald Weed,  Elliot Weed, Alta McLaren and Dorothy Lapham.   A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Westwood, 808 High Street, Westwood, MA. at a later date. Please check with Folsom Funeral Service for more information. Burial will be private. Donations in Marion's memory may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers, 161 Huntington Avenue, Jamaica Plain, MA. 02130.

Ivar E. Johnson, 96, died August 13, 2012 at Norwood Hospital. He was a painter for several decorating companies until his retirement thirty years ago.

He and his late wife Eleanor married in 1938 and two years later built a house in Westwood where they lived the rest of their lives. He was an active Mason, member of Celestial Lodge, AF & AM and recently received his 40 year pin.  He and Eleanor were longtime members of the First Parish of Westwood United Church. He leaves his three children; David and his wife Elaine of Wareham, Marjorie of North Attleboro, and Dianne Sullivan and husband Charles of Walpole, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Burial will be private.  A memorial service will be held at the First Parish of Westwood United Church, 340 Clapboardtree St., Westwood on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 2 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Ivar’s memory may be sent to First Parish of Westwood United Church at the address listed above.
