Colonel (Ret) Paul H. Duray Sr, MD Dies at 74

The pathologist and member of the team of doctors who helped discover and diagnose Lyme's Disease also completed multiple tours in Iraq as a flight surgeon at the age of 68-70.

 

Colonel Paul H. Duray, Sr. , M.D., 74 years, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 4, 1938 and died on October 8. 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado of which he was a longtime resident, he was a former of Westwood, Massachusetts for 31 years.

At age 4, he was a survivor of the attack at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941.

He was a Pathologist and former Army Reserve doctor. And a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Paul was a renowned expert on Lyme’s Disease and part of a team at Yale University to discover and diagnose the disease.  At the age of 68-70, he returned to uniform and completed multiple tours in Iraq as a flight surgeon, primarily in the Balad/Central Euphrates region.

He is survived by his  loving wife of 47 years, Esther Duray , two sons, Chuck and Paul Duray; two daughters-in-law, Paula and Amy Duray;  5 grandchildren;  Josh, Matt, Samantha, Caroline, and James.

Visitation was held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 5:30pm – 7:00 pm at The Springs  Funeral  Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue.

Graveside Service was held at 9:15AM, Friday, October 12, 2012 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado, Staging Area C.
