Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong Dead at 82

Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon on July 20, 1969.

Neil Armstrong, the modest engineer who became a national hero when he became the first man to walk on the moon, has died at age 82.

Armstrong, who always considered himself a regular guy and tried to stay out of the spotlight, became forever etched into American history when, as the Commander of Apollo 11, he stepped onto the moon on July 20, 1969, and said simply, "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind."

An estimated 600 million people watched or listened to the first lunar landing, the largest audience for any event in history.

Where were you when Neil Armstrong first stepped onto the moon, and what do you remember most about the moment?
