One relatively normal Veterans Day in Westwood also marked the marriage of a Norwood couple.

Originally, the couple planned to wed at Veterans Park to commemorate the date, as Shauna is currently serving in the U.S. Navy.

When they discovered the town's plans for a Veterans Day celebration, they looked to move the wedding to the Norwood Town Common. But a Veterans Day celebration was also being held there, and they were able to coordinate a small ceremony at the gazebo in Westwood thanks to the help of Powers.

"She took it to the next level," Kazachkov said of Powers, whom he met while coordinating the development of his dental office. "It was probably the best it could have been.

Powers, for her part, was more than willing to help and loved the notion of marrying a couple on 11/11/11.

"When Dan and Shauna asked me to officiate their marriage on Nov. 11, I thought, 'Wow, that's so neat,'" Powers said. "Those odds will not come up again for another 100 years."

She added, "They are a great couple and I wish them many, many years of happiness together," Powers said. "I am sure that the day they chose is certain to give them an abundance of good luck."

Shortly after the ceremony, the couple went to the Four Seasons in Norwood for a ceremonial lunch. They then used the Thanksgiving holiday to celebrate their honeymoon and enjoy time spent with family.

Because of the quick nature of the ceremony due to Shauna having to leave for service at Parris Island in South Carolina, Kazachkov said they plan to have a larger ceremony in a couple of years once she has finished service.
