New Library in 2012: What's in Store This Year [Photos, Video]

A look at the new Westwood Public Library's growth in 2011 and what's to come in 2012.

There's not doubt that 2011 was an exciting year for the . Construction on the new library grew month by month last year, and what started as merely a site of dirt and foundation in January eventually turned into the exterior structure of the new building.

"Most of the outside work is done," said Library Director Tom Viti this week. "They're finishing a few things on the roof, and some more of the masonry. If you go by the front of the building, you'll see it's wrapped up so they can work in the cold weather. They have to take extra precautions when the temperature gets below a certain degree level."

In the next few months, crews will work on interior work, Viti said, which includes installation of the building's main elevator, as well as plumbing and electrical work on the second floor. The main stairwell is also to be installed.

Meanwhile, a number of furniture items are being custom made off-site in Biddiford, Maine, Vitis said.

"The circulation desk, the children's desk and some other things," he said. "They're not custom because they're extra special, they just fit in that space."

Today, check out a quick photo gallery of progress of the New Westwood Public Library in 2011, as well as a couple of inside video clips.
