Historical View of Westwood: Ellis Tavern

A look back at this spot on High Street back in 1732.

The Ellis Tavern on High Street was established in 1732 and served as a hub for political, military, social, and business life in the community and for travelers on the Hartford Turnpike. In 1811, it became a formal mail stop. In 1824, the Ellis Tavern became the West Dedham Post Office under Abner Ellis.
