Five Great Holiday Performances to Enjoy in and Around Westwood

In the mood for some musical holiday spirit? Here's what to check out in the surrounding area this month.

'Tis the season for music in and around Westwood.

If you're looking for a great musical performance to see this month as you look to celebrate the holidays, look no further. We've got a roundup of what to check out for events in the area that just bellow out the holiday spirit. 

1.  On Sunday, Dec. 18, at around 2 p.m., be sure to head over to the First Parish of Westwood's meeting house. There, you'll get the chance to see the all-brass and percussion New England Brass Band rock the holiday spirit! Tickets are $10 ($25/family) and may be purchased at the door. The event is sponsored by the Roy & Eleanor London Music Fund.

2.  How about celebrating the holidays with Christmas music from across three continents, as well as three centuries? Well, that's what you'll get if you head over to to hear the Dedham Choral Society's concert on Friday, Dec. 9. Listen to the 85-voice chorus, orchestra and soloists, under the masterful direction of Jonathan Barnhart, perform exciting and beautiful music sung in Spanish, Latin and a rare Native American dialect. 

3.  The Pirates of Penzancespins a hilarious farce of sentimental pirates, bumbling policemen, dim-wited young lvoers, dewy-eyed daughters and an eccentric Major General. Be sure to check it out this month for a unique holiday treat.

4.  This special "Jingle Bell Jam" class is a wonderful way for families to ring in the holidays together, and includes traditional winter and Holiday songs, dancing, stories and instrument play for all ages. What's more, $5 of will be donated to The Children's Room, the largest, independent non-profit in Massachusetts that is solely dedicated to supporting grieving children, teens and families.

5.  This celebration of the mid-winter season has become a very popular show, and features tunes from the Kilmore carols of Wexford to the Irish-American vaudeville stage, from Winter Solstice traditions to Christian to pagan. The event takes place Saturday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. in the Homegrown Coffeehouse of the .
