5 Things You Need to Know Today: Nov. 23

A roundup of information and events in Westwood on Thanksgiving Eve 2011.

Holiday Travel Forecast: If you're planning on traveling for Thanksgiving, be careful. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Wednesday, forecasting heavy rainfall and wind gusts as high as 29 miles per hour. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent, and between 1 and 2 inches of rain is possible. Temperatures will hover around 50 degrees.

1. Holiday Early Release: Westwood Public Schools will hold a special early-release day with no lunch today in lieu of the Thanksgiving holiday. will dismiss at 10:45 a.m., while will dismiss at 11:10, will dismiss at 11:35 a.m. and all other schools are to let out at noon.

2. Thanksgiving Football: The annual rivalry football game between Westwood and Holliston will take place in Holliston this year. Kick off begins at 10 a.m.

4. Thanksgiving Week Trash Collection: There will be a holiday schedule for trash collection this week: There will be regular pick up Monday through Wednesday, but there will be no picked up on Thursday (Thanksgiving Day). Trash and recycling for the rest of the week will be delayed one day; Friday collection will be on Saturday.

5. Christmas Tree Fundraiser: Starting this Friday, Westwood residents will be able to purchase a Christmas Tree at the Islington Tennis Courts as part of the Westwood Permanent Firefighters Association's
