Working Cooperatively

The Potters Place Show and Sale is more than just a pottery sale, it's an opportunity to purchase art directly from the clay artist in the place where it was created.

Seven years ago, I joined the Potters Place studio and pottery school in Walpole. The membership allowed me to have my own work space, create with clay 24/7, and, to show and sell my work twice a year at .

In the time that I have been a member, Potters Place has doubled it's membership. There are more class opportunities. The shows have become increasingly popular as the greater community has come to realize what a gem Potters Place is in a .

For me, Potters Place is my refuge. It is a place where I can go to "play with clay". Like a child, the simple act of playing allows for ideas to flow. There is great joy in creating with your hands.

At Potters Place, the clay artisans work in a shared space. We talk about the kind of clay that works best for certain projects. We help each other when we struggle to create. We share the work load: firing kilns, recycling clay, making glazes.

Show and Sale is a celebration of our accomplishments as artists.

We clean our studio. We promote our fellow potters. We join together for the weekend to meet and greet, show and sell, promote what we believe to be a very special place where artists cooperatively create in clay.

Our Show and Sales are more than just pottery sales. They present the opportunity to visit a working studio whose mission is to share their love of clay with the larger community. It's where one can purchase art directly from the artist in the place where it was created. It is where a relationship is made between the art and the hand that made it.
