Here is a little information about the clay artists from Westwood:

Henriette Dresens – Founder of Potters Place

“Many years ago, needing a change of pace in the daily routine of a busy housewife, I signed up for a pottery class offered at the Adult Education in ," Dresens said. "The first time I put my hands into the clay, I knew I was hooked.  Now after more than 40 years following my passion, I'm still teaching the 'Art of Clay' and doing what I love best.”

Lisa WB Walker

A ceramics class in high school inspired Lisa to seek out a studio art degree in college. She enjoys wheel throwing functional ware and exploring with different surface decoration. Life, color, seasonal change, flowers, local food are some of the things that inspire Lisa’s work in clay. This fall, she will continue to explore her interest in color and functionality, using a leaf pattern to reference the changing season. Jane Wojick

“My hands have always been my best tools and, as I have aged, it has become clear that the need to create is a primal part of who I am," Wojick said. "I discovered clay when I began taking adult classes at the Potters Place. I find that working with clay is truly satisfying and is a positive way to focus my natural inclination towards perfectionism and attention to detail.

"Because clay has a life of it’s own, I have learned to control it but, at the same time, let it speak it’s own mind. The clay has taught me both persistence and patience. Every day in the studio is an adventure and I never quite know where the clay will take me next.”

Kathy Allard Whelan

An accomplished quilter, Kathy started pottery lessons at Potters Place in 2006 and joined the studio in 2010. This year Kathy’s pottery work has been two-fold: to practice her skill on the pottery wheel and to use carving, hand-building, and glazing to add interesting details to basic mugs, teapots, bowls and plates.  Inspired by the studio’s theme for the fall show, “Festive Feasts” and her family’s tendency to roast a pig whenever they get together, she hand-built a family of pig-shaped serving bowls. You can see her quilting and her pottery at the show.”

When you visit Potters Place this weekend at 127B Old West Street in Walpole, you will have an opportunity to visit the studio and learn more about the craft of pottery, as well as the upcoming winter classes at Potters Place for adults, teens and children.
