Support Lifelong Learning Right Here in Westwood

If you don't know about the Outdoor Learning Center (OLC), this is a great opportunity to check it out, purchase a plant and support a local Westwood project.

On Saturday, June 4 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., there will be a Plant Sale for the Outdoor Learning Center (OLC) at located at 549 Pond Street.

If you don’t know about the OLC, this is a great opportunity to check out the permanent multi-purpose outdoor classroom (in progress), purchase a plant and support a local Westwood project.

With a total price tag of $32,000, the OLC has already raised two-thirds of the funds needed thanks to a $15,000 start up grant from the Westwood Educational Foundation, a successful fundraiser at Whole Foods in Dedham, and many generous donations within the Westwood community. Fundraising continues with the upcoming plant sale on Saturday and a brick fundraiser concluding on June 15th.

Linda Walter, landscape designer and Westwood parent, designed the OLC two years ago.  With the help of many volunteers including Eagle Scouts, parents, residents, students and teachers, the project is going full steam ahead! The exterior of the elementary school is completely transformed.

states that, “through use of the school grounds, the OLC aims to enhance student education by integrating science, language, literacy, social studies, math and visual arts. But through the OLC, Sheehan administrators are also hoping to promote healthier nutritional attitudes and ecological literacy.”
