Fireworks to Light Up Westwood on New Year's Eve

The annual event kicks off at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Where Westwood may lack in a fireworks display on the Fourth of July each year, the town certainly makes up for on New Year's Eve. 

The annual fireworks tradition will continue on Saturday at 7 p.m., when, from the center of the athletic field, a fiery display will emit into the New Year's night sky for all to see. 

"It's a coordinated effort," said . "Our department manages it, but it's coordinated between the Department of Public Works and the Fire Department."

New Hampshire-based Atlas Pyro will provide the fireworks, setting up as early as 10 a.m.

"They do a great job," Burnes said. "It's going to be my first event, so I'm real excited to be apart of it."

Parking for the event will be available at , Thurston Middle School and the . No admittance will be allowed on the field where the display will be held; residents can watch from their cars or on the Westwood High School football field. 

Attendees who drive are also encouraged to deactivate their car alarms, as the noise and vibration from the fireworks can easily set them off, Burnes said.  

Funding for the event, which costs about $6,000, comes from a $5,000 donations from with the remainder from .
