Westwood Youth Host Hunger Banquet

First Parish of Westwood will host an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet, sponsored by the combined youth groups of First Parish, First Baptist and St. John’s churches, on Sunday, March 27th from 5:30-7PM in the Parish Hall at 340 Clapboardtree St.  The cost for admission will be $5 per individual, or $10 per family.

The Hunger Banquet directly engages participants in a dramatization of the unequal distribution of resources and wealth in the world. It is a powerful tool that demonstrates the inequalities in our world. Few leave the banquet with full stomachs, but all leave with a greater understanding of the problems of global hunger and poverty and hopefully with the motivation to do something about it!

On arrival, each guest draws a ticket randomly assigning them to a high, middle, or low income tier and is served a corresponding meal. The 15% in the high-income tier are served a gourmet meal. The 25% in the middle-income section eat a simple meal of rice and beans. The 60% in the low-income tier receive rice and water. An interactive script is read during the meal time by two student emcees engaging the audience with a few surprises.
