Unsung Dedham

Dedham, March 2014 – Back by popular demand, and now housed at a larger venue, the Dedham School of Music (DSM) presents Unsung Dedham III on Sunday, April 6, 4-6pm, at the Mother Brook Arts & Community Center(MBACC). Tickets are $20per person, $35per family, and may be purchased at www.dedhamschoolofmusic.org, or by calling 781-441-9372. In supporting the go-green effort, all purchased tickets will be held at the will-call booth, located at the main entrance of the MBACC. Doors will open at 3:30pm.

Designed to showcase local musicians from Dedham & surrounding communities whose “talent far exceeds their fame,” this year’s feature performers include: Second Wind A Capella, The Kapps, Dedham High Jazz Ensemble and the Dedham Elementary String & Band Ensembles.

“Arts and culture enhance and enrich the quality of life for every city and town. In six years, Dedham School of Music has expanded music programs and made them more accessible, as both private lessons and after-school enrichment programs in our public schools,” said Gabriella Sanna, Executive Director of the DSM.

The musicians performing at this year’s show represent a depth of talent and a dedication to improving - and fine-tuning – their skills. It’s a harmonious blend of age, sound, instrument and tone. “The Dedham School of Music’s staff and volunteers are proud to contribute to Dedham’s social and cultural offerings and creative economy,” exclaimed Margaret Matthews, President of the Board of Directors.
“DSM is part of a national trend called “creative industries” - a term used by public and private organizations. We believe the DSM plays an important role in the continued growth of Dedham’s economy and livelihood,” added Matthews. These industries, such as the DSM, are providing a vast array of benefits to the community: stimulating other businesses through consumer purchases, expanding tourism activity, creating jobs and building a more thriving and civic community where people want to live.

Doors to Unsung Dedham open at 3:30 and guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy light fare sponsored by Whole Foods, participate in the popular silent auction and enjoy conversation with each other.

All proceeds benefit the Dedham School of Music and its Scholarship Fund. The DSM Scholarship Fund provides assistance to deserving students in high-quality music lessons programs and allows DSM to ensure that music opportunities are available to all students community-wide. Sponsors of this event, which without their commitment to arts and culture would be nearly impossible, include; Encore Sponsor, Dedham Saving; Ovation Sponsor, Eastern Bank; Patron Sponsor, Jed Insurance and Financial Agency, Inc.; and our Friend, F.M. Walley Insurance Agency, Inc.

Founded in 2008, Dedham School of Music is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to culturally enrich the town of Dedhamand surrounding communities by providing a supportive environment for musicians of all ages and abilities to perform, create, appreciate and learn to play music.
