UPDATED: Wintry Mix Hits Westwood in Wake of Prior Storm

Less than a week after , a wintry mix was expected to hit Westwood by Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service out of Taunton has issued a Winter Storm Warning, as well as a Hazardous Weather Outlook, for much of the state, including Norfolk County. The warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

"A wintry mix of precipitation will continue into the evening with significant snow and ice accumulations across the interior," Tuesday's warning stated.

Accumulations of one to four inches of snow is expected to hit the area, according to the NWS, as well as one quarter to half an inch of ice. 

"Untreated roads will be snow/ice covered and slippery," the warning stated. "In addition . . . one quarter to one inch of freezing rain may result in some downed large tree limbs and scattered power outages."

UPDATE (9:46 a.m.): Tuesday morning's weather caused for some slippery road conditions in Westwood, resulting in a handful of minor car accidents.

"We've had three car accidents as a result of the snow-covered roadways and those accidents occurred between 6 a.m. and (9:30 a.m.)," said Westwood Police Detective Paul Toland. "The DPW is out treating the roadways and hopefully people drive with caution and proceed accordingly."

UPDATE (12:22 p.m.): The snow continued to fall in the area as of noon on Tuesday, which surprised the Westwood Department of Public Works.

"We came in early this morning just to kind of get ahead of what was forecasted," said Westwood DPW Director Vicki Quiram. "We've got all the roads salted; everything's pretty clear."

There was concern, however, over when the snow might stop, Quiram added, as forecasters had predicted it to dissipate beginning around 10 a.m. But as of noon, the flakes were still falling. 

"Our contractors are now being deployed and we're going to start scraping off the roads," Quiram said. "We are going to do everything we can to get the snow off the ground and scraped for the evening commute. This could stop, and it could turn to sleet. Either way, it's going to be a thing to battle this evening. 

UPDATE (12:28 p.m.): Westwood Public Schools have canceled afternoon and evening activities.
