Westwood Sends Connect-CTY Message to Residents with Hurricane Sandy Safety Information

The Town of Westwood sent out a Connect-CTY message a short while ago to residents, giving them important safety and contact information to use during Hurricane Sandy.

The following is the text from the Connect-CTY message that was sent out earlier this evening. In addition, please note that Westwood Public Schools and Town Offices will be closed tomorrow. The Town will have staff available to answer phones if people have non-emergency questions and/or concerns.

Hello, this is Mike Jaillet , Town Administrator,  calling with some important information for you to consider as you make your final preparation for Hurricane Sandy.

MEMA and the National Weather Bureau have advised us that Westwood is predicted to have sustained and gusting winds at times exceeding 50 miles per hour over a twelve to eighteen hour period starting early Monday morning. The storm will likely bring down large limbs and trees, causing widespread power outages and possible damage to homes.  It is important that no one approach or drive over a downed power line.  Always assume that it is live.

The following measures are being implemented by the town.  Starting tomorrow, trash collection will be delayed by at least one day.  Please do not put out any trash and recycling receptacles tonight or tomorrow.  We will be posting the status of trash and recycling collection on the town Web site each day for the remainder of the week.

Additionally, we ask that vehicles not be parked on the side of streets overnight.

In conformance with the Governor’s declaration of a State of Emergency, we ask residents and businesses to remain off the streets during and immediately after the storm and allow our Public Safety and Public Works employees time to make things safe and open up public ways.

In the event you need emergency assistance during the storm, please call 911.  If you have a non-emergency matter such as needing shelter or reporting a downed tree or power lines, we ask that you call Public Safety Dispatch at 781-320-1000.  If your power goes out, NStar asks that you call them directly at 800-592-2000.

If the degree of power outage is as significant as predicted, the Town will provide an opportunity to take showers at the High School in the days following the storm.

Please remain safe throughout the storm and be assured we will be doing everything possible to get the Town back to normal as promptly as possible.  Thank you.
