Westwood Resident Named One of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly's 2012 Top Women of Law

Marianne LeBlanc, principal at Sugarman and Sugarman P.C. was recently named one of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s 2012 Top Women of Law.  This award celebrates legal educators, trailblazers and role models who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in their chosen fields.

LeBlanc is one of 50 women who join the ranks of Mass Lawyers Weekly’s 156 honorees who have been recognized over the past four years.

She has been involved in a variety of organizations that further the careers of fellow women lawyers.  She is a past president of the Women’s Bar Association and under her leadership, started the Women of Color Committee that explored the lack of minority female leadership in the legal profession and the Equality Commission, created to address gender issues within the practice of law.

She is also a past president of the Women’s Bar Foundation of Massachusetts, is currently a board member, and sits on the committee that chooses the prestigious Lelia J. Robinson award, given to a woman who has captured the spirit of pioneering in the legal profession and has made a difference in her community.   LeBlanc is also immediate past chair of the American Association for Justice’s Women’s Trial Lawyers Caucus and is currently chair of its mentorship program that she helped create in 2010.  She also serves as a mentor to several young attorneys under this program.

In addition to all of her legal work, awards and affiliations, Marianne has been the driving force behind Sugarman’s adoption of The Harrington House, a home run by the New England Home for Little Wanderers.  For the past two years, she and her colleagues helped refurbish the home for the children who live there. 

Honorees will be celebrated at a luncheon on Friday, October 12, 2012. The event will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and will feature Suzanne M. Bump, the 25th Auditor of the Commonwealth, as the keynote speaker.
