WestCAT to Air on Comcast, Looking for Volunteers

The community access channel is expected to air on Comcast as of next week.

Less than a month after it began , Westwood Community Access Television (WestCAT) announced Tuesday that is also expecting to air on the Comcast network shortly after the Fourth of July.

"If all goes to plan, we should be on Comcast at some point next week," WestCAT Executive Director Adam Long told Westwood Patch on Tuesday.

Once the move takes place, WestCAT will air on Comcast Channel 8 for Public programming, Channel 12 for educational programming, and Channel 22 for governmental programming.

Earlier this month, WestCAT began broadcasting on Verizon Channel 32 for governmental programming and Channel 42 for community access programs.

All stations on which WestCAT airs will display bulletin-board information related to the town in between programming, Long said. And in terms of streaming content to both networks, Long said it should not be a problem.

"Basically I'm taking the same thing I'm patching to the Verizon encoder and I'll just patch it through to the Comcast encoder," he said. "Everything you see on Verizon is going to be the exact same thing you see on Comcast. It's very, very simple to do. Once they give me the green light to start broadcasting, it's going to be on there."

WestCAT looks to bring continued coverage of town board meetings, as well as events like the upcoming summer concert series in July.

Meanwhile, WestCAT is currently looking for volunteers to help aid in programming and to help cover events this summer.

"The station is now basically running itself," Long said. "I can go out and film programming and do a ton more out in the field. It's summer, and I encourage people to attend all these town events."
