Week in Review: Walsh Falls to Rush in State Primary, FBI Makes Presence in Westwood

A roundup of Westwood news from the past week.

This past week was one of the more exciting weeks we've had in covering news in Westwood.

First up was the State Primary elections, which hit close to home for Westwood residents, as Michael Walsh - who lives in Westwood - fell to Mike Rush in the race for State Senate. The loss hit Walsh hard, but he is already looking at what's ahead of him.

Meanwhile, while residents were rushing to the polls, State Police and FBI dive crews began searching Buckmaster Pond as part of a federal investigation. Their mere presence attracted curious onlookers.

Both State Police and the FBI Boston division have remained tight-lipped about what they are searching for at the pond.

Westwood Police recently made an arrest in a string of car break-ins, and have implemented a crime mapping system on the department's website that allows visitors to see where police action is happening in town.

On Tuesday, Glad Rags Thrift Store opened its doors for the 33rd season. The shop sells everything from clothing to household goods, and proceeds go to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (MSPCC).

There was also quite a bit of action on the level of high school sports. The Westwood High School girls' volleyball team defeated Stoughton Monday night, while the girls' soccer team picked up its first point of the season in a home game draw against Millis.

Westwood High's field hockey team fell to both Dover-Sherborn and Ashland this week, and Xaverian's soccer team ended a battle against BC High in a tie. Finally, Westwood High School's football team beat Hopkinton 22-6 with the help of senior quarterback Will Smith.

And lastly, Westwood School Superintendent John Antonucci reacted to the town's MCAS scores, which were released on Wednesday.
