Top Comments of the Week: Feb. 27-March 4

A highlight of some contributed comments from our readers this week.

In this new feature on Westwood Patch, we'll be bringing you some of the most informative comments from our readers during the past week.

As always, we continue to appreciate the feedback our reader send us, and encourage others to comment on articles as often as possible, as well as to email directly at mattp@patch.com.

One reader responded this past week to the news that Westwood High School's varsity boys' hockey Coach Mike Welby:

"Nice to see Westwood hockey in the news. Congratulations to the head coach. When my brother and I played in the "old days" when we had no organized team (we played on the ponds on the weekends) it was hard to make the college teams . . . Westwood has come a long way. Keep up the great work."

The conversations amounted this week over the most recent topic, which focused on what readers thought were the most family-friendly restaurants in the Westwood area.

"I'm counting down the days until reopens," said one reader, Abby. "It's not just about the ice cream (although that's a huge bonus). My son loves the grilled cheese sandwich and the fried clams are great! Until Spring arrives, though, is also a great kid friendly place and my boys love when the "Balloon lady" is there."

Anne Marie, another reader, recommended a few other, out-of-Westwood options.

"A few surprising family-friendly places we visit outside Westwood are: ," she said. "They always have daily specials and kids eat free on Tuesday, (with each adult entree). Best macaroni and cheese around. is another spot where families are welcome and you can get a great meal. The service is fast and friendly, you have to check them out!"

An article posted in February showed some concern by residents over the proposed construction of a new cell tower by in Westwood. The article generated two comments within a short time frame from readers Greg Agnew and Peyton Farrell:

"Don't gamble with the health and safety of us and our children," Agnew commented. "We have far too many homes that are plummeting in value due to the lack of commercial development we have, and the last thing we need is another cell tower that allows potential buyers to re-consider."

Commented Farrell, "I'm not for anything that reduces the quality of life in Westwood, but because a tower will bring some good to the area when it comes to cell coverage and mobility, it will probably be a boon to Westwood, not a blight."

Most recently, another reader posted a comment in opposition to the idea:

"It is frustrating that since people want better cell phone usage to power their '4G' wireless, our children are being put at risk. They passed the building of a tower to be built at the school by our home and we didn't even have a say in the matter. I do not feel they are safe to live next to, and yes, when property values are already struggling, the towers will have an impact."
