The Best Picnic Spots in the Westwood Area

From Buckmaster Pond to Hale Reservation, there are a number of great areas to check out.

It seems like a lifetime since the streets of Westwood were filled with ice, sand, salt, snow, and whatever else Father Winter felt like throwing into the mix.

Thankfully, those months are long-gone, and now it's time to turn attention to Summer. It's right around the corner.

This week, we're using to round up some great areas in and around Westwoodwhere you can enjoy an outdoor lunch with your loved ones.

Needless to say, this is an ideal spot for a picnic right in the heart of Westwood. Either enjoy relaxing on the small field that lies adjacent to Pond Street, or head closer to the waterside and eat on the shore of the pond itself.

One thing's for sure - Hale's got trails. There are several to choose from, and you can walk along any of them to find a perfect spot for a nice relaxing afternoon picnic. Check out some of the reservation's grassy areas or walk down by Noanet Pond.

School Street Playground: A perfect spot to enjoy a picnic with your young children. Let the kids play around for a bit in the morning and finish the trip off with a packed lunch by the swingset or on a bench.

Right around the corner along Rte. 109, Dedham Common is one of many parks operated by the town's Park and Recreation Department. A wooden fence surrounds the four acres of open grass, which are landscaped with trees around the outside.

Bird Park in Walpole: Designed for "active play," this nearby park has a number of grassy field-like areas to hang out and relax, especially after enjoying a bike ride or morning of activity at the tot lot.
