Swing Band Attracts Hundreds on Hot Summer Evening [VIDEO]

Westwood residents gathered to enjoy the tunes of swing music Monday night.

Westwood's annual kicked off on Monday, with over a hundred residents showing up to watch the .

Throughout the evening, people of all ages gathered and relaxed on the lawn of the . The band played a variety of tunes starting at 6:30 p.m. Mark Rogers introduced each song throughout the night, with some numbers featuring Gail Riley on vocals.

Several children were up and dancing, while parents were able to sit back and relax on the hot summer evening.

The series is sponsored by the Westwood Young Women's Club and the . The Young Women's Club had a table set up that sold pizza and other refreshments.

Pizzas were sold by the slice, or whole pies could be purchased. donated pies for the event to lessen the cost for bringing in the musical acts.

Young Women's Club President Mary Kate Ferreira said that the event was a success.

"It's a fun, free activity that the whole family can enjoy," said Ferreira.

Ferreira explained that the series usually kicks off on the first Monday of July, but with Independence Day falling on a Monday this year, the initial date was pushed back a week. There will be concerts on each Monday, with the series ending on August 1.

The series has two shows geared towards adults and the others aimed at children. However, Ferreira said that each concert is something that everyone can enjoy.
