Selectmen Honor Former Westwood Official

Longtime Westwood resident Fred Meagher, Jr. passed away last week and was buried Tuesday.

The Westwood Board of Selectmen Monday night acknowledged the recent passing of Frederick Meagher, Jr., a former army veteran and Westwood Selectmen who died last week.

"Westwood has unfortunately lost another member of its community," Selectmen Chair Pat Ahearn said Monday night. "I enjoyed my conversations with him over the years. He is one that can't be replaced and Westwood is a poorer place with him passing."

Ahearn noted that the American Flag at would sit at half mast this week in honor of Meagher.

Meagher was a graduate of Boston College High School and Boston College, as well as a former Westwood Selectman and a former Chairman of Humanities International Elderhostel Program.

He was a Lector and Eucharist Minister at , a member of Walpole Country Club for over 35 years and a United States Army Captain and Korean War Veteran.

A funeral service was held at Meagher's home on Tuesday morning, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Meagher's memory to Haley House, 23 Dartmouth St., Boston, MA 02116-5912.
