Recreation Department Gives Westwood Day Update

The Recreation Department met on Tuesday night and discussed Westwood Day.

On Tuesday night, the Recreation Department met and talked briefly about the upcoming . Director David Burnes said that they will be holding a strategic plan meeting next month and will be looking to solidify actual committees.

Burnes aims to have between six and eight committees involved with Westwood Day. He said that he would like to start approaching people to chair committees and have them come out with a date in September to set up an open meeting for discussion.

“We’ll form a steering committee and move the ball forward,” said Burnes.

Burnes said that he will be giving continuous updates on where things stand with Westwood Day. He wants feedback from members of the community as well, saying that he plans to collect suggestions because he knows there will be great ideas.

Burnes sees the importance of getting the whole community involved because that is exactly what Westwood Day is all about.

“Basically, we are at the information collecting point,” said Burnes.

Earlier this year, Burnes announced the postponement of this year’s Westwood Day to allow for more planning. It was originally scheduled for this coming October, but it has been rescheduled for the fall of 2012.

Aside from a Centennial Parade in 2000, there has not been a celebration like this in Westwood for almost 20 years. Westwood Day will take place in either September or October of next year.
