New Westwood Library 75% Complete

Believe it or not, the new Westwood Public Library is three-quarters of the way to opening its doors. 

Progress on the project has reached the 75 percent completion mark, according to an update last week from the general contractor of the project. 

In addition, Westwood has received its third grant payment from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners' Public LIbrary Construction Grant Program, according to the update. 

Likewise, the project has received about $3.3 million from the state in funding, or 90 percent of the project's total grant award. 

"We have hopes that the stone lintel from the original 1901 building, now part of the entrance area of the current library, can be moved intact and incorporated in the new wall," Westwood Library Director Tom Viti wrote in a recent blog post. "You can expect to see the project trailer removed sometime in July to allow for further site work." 

Moreover, the library’s book and audio-visual materials collection is being tagged, item by item, for . While eight libraries of the Minuteman Library Network plan to use RFID technology, Westwood will be the first to use the auto sort system, according to last week's update.
