MBTA Once Again Looking Into Possibilty of Billboards at Rt. 128 Garage

Dedham Town Administrator Bill Keegan said he has not heard from the MBTA of such intentions but the town has been opposed to the idea in the past.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will soon be studying the possibility of placing two billboards at the Route 128 MBTA garage in Westwood near the Westwood/Dedham line.

“No final plan has been developed but we do plan to offer a proposal in the near future,” said MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo. “Under their contract with the MBTA, Clear Channel has the right to that location (subject to T approval of the plan). Engineering studies need to be conducted prior to a formal presentation of a proposal.”

Pesaturo said he did not know when the engineering studies would take place but they "should have a better idea within a month."

Dedham Town Administrator Bill Keegan said the town was not aware of any new intentions to place billboards at the garage.

“To my knowledge, the town has not been contacted about this action from the MBTA. The town has been opposed to this type of display in the past,” Keegan said.

In 2009, Clear Channel withdrew plans to place an 85-foot-tall two-sided billboard at the garage after complaints from town officials from Dedham and Westwood were made, according to an article on Boston.com.
